Woodforest is proud to collaborate and invest with these national non-profit organizations and their commitment to empower our communities. We partner directly with numerous community non-profit organizations in all of the communities we serve.

Woodforest Charitable Foundation

The Woodforest Charitable Foundation was created by Woodforest National Bank in 2005 as a direct result of its desire to support and invest in the communities in which it serves. The Foundation is committed to assisting those in need, enriching lives and communities through dedicated leadership and faithful administration by providing funding to qualifying 501(c)(3) charities.

In 2005 Woodforest National Bank fulfilled a commitment to itself by creating the Woodforest Charitable Foundation with an initial contribution of $1,000,000 and continues to provide annual funding. Recently Woodforest National Bank and its Board of Directors presented the Woodforest Charitable Foundation with a $3,000,000 donation. Throughout Woodforest National Bank's 32 years of providing top customer service and quality products it has also created a legacy of dedicated community support. Through dedicated leadership Woodforest Charitable Foundation provides funding to not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the communities that Woodforest National Bank serves throughout 17 states. Woodforest National Bank branches perform weekly fundraisers that benefit Woodforest Charitable Foundation in addition to the many hours of in-kind donations through employee volunteer hours and financial literacy training.

Family Promise

Family Promise is a nonprofit organization committed to helping low-income families achieve lasting independence. Recognizing that poverty is a multifaceted problem that requires a multifaceted response, Family Promise takes action by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers. Family Promise also supplies food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. In addition to all these services, they provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent them from becoming homeless and they educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.

Family Promise operates in 41 states throughout the U.S. and has affiliates in 14 states that Woodforest operates branches in. Our community partnership will be funding a financial literacy program that is specifically tailored to helping low-income families. In addition to the 182 Family Promise affiliates who will use this program, Woodforest will integrate it into our collection of financial literacy curriculum for our employees to use when conducting financial literacy classes across our network. The expected completion date is October 2014.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement USA is the nation’s largest and oldest organization giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. In 2013 alone Junior Achievement classes were taught to more than 4.4 million children and young adults across America. Junior Achievement currently operates 194 offices in 46 states and Washington D.C., including 16 of the 17 states that Woodforest National Bank serves.

The Junior Achievement curriculum has become a pillar in the financial literacy classes that Woodforest National Bank facilitates. With Junior Achievement classes being delivered by corporate and community volunteers, finding dedicated companies that consistently offer their time and commitment is key to the success of the program.  In 2013 Woodforest had 186 locations teach nearly 700 classes to children and young adults. In addition to delivering classes, 22 Woodforest employees currently hold board or committee positions with Junior Achievement chapters across the United States. We look forward to continuing to grow our involvement with this worthwhile organization.

The Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation

Woodforest National Bank partnered with this organization in 2012 by originating a community development loan in the amount of $6.5 million. The banks’ loan benefitted 28 low-to moderate-income senior housing facilities that are located across the banks 17 state footprint. In addition, the banks CRA Officer voluntarily serves on the organization's CRA Advisory Committee and has worked with the organization to develop “Senior Focused” Financial Literacy training.

The sole objective of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation (SHCPF) is to reduce crime in the nation’s low-to moderate-income senior housing facilities and to provide on-going, effective crime prevention programs that promote safe, secure and high quality of life environments for senior housing residents.

In part, this objective is accomplished by installing the highly successful Senior Crimestoppers program in facilities sponsored through investments, community development loans or community development grants. Nationally, the Senior Crimestoppers program has reduced all incidents of crime in participating senior housing facilities by approximately 93 percent as of December 31, 2012. Ways to Work

Woodforest is proud to partner with Ways to Work since early 2013. We are currently working with their agency offices throughout our branch network and our employees voluntarily serve on Boards and Committee positions, as well. Woodforest provides grant funding to help support the agency programs and also provides loan capital to Ways to Work. This capital is then utilized to fund Ways to Work agencies that serve the communities Woodforest has branches located in.

Ways to Work is a unique Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Milwaukee, WI. Through their network of 44 loan offices across the country, they provide low-interest loans, financial education, and support to working families with challenging credit histories. Ways to Work is an alternative to predatory lenders for people with a demonstrated commitment to improving their credit status, moving up in the workforce and achieving increased self-sufficiency.

As an asset-building and economic self-sufficiency program for underserved populations without access to conventional financial resources, Ways to Work helps families move off of and stay off welfare and dependency programs. Instead of handouts, it provides families a helping hand-up toward a more stable financial future.
